Dividend Income - December 2014 Update

Hi Everyone,

It's that time again when I get to post about a favorite topic of mine, dividends!  I hope this post inspires other investors out there to start saving and investing as soon as they can.  The power you feel knowing that you are richer than you were yesterday and you didn't have to work for it is a wonderful feeling.

With consistent saving and investing hopefully one day these dividends will pay for our expenses and that is what we like to call the American Dividend Dream!

With that being said, lets get down to the numbers:

This month happened to be a blowout month!  This months total came in at $1010.15 which is 286% more than this time last year and 271% more than last quarter!!

December is usually a bigger month than all the others because of the 401K funds that have big payouts during the month.  This time however, the Vanguard Mid Cap fund in my brokerage account pushed my account to new heights.  I was not nearly expecting such a huge payment but I'm not complaining!

December Dividend Income:

  • VMGRX - LT Cap Gain:  $423.46, ST Cap Gain:  $105.41, Dividend:  $6.34
  • PSEC - 54.65
  • CSX - 10.77
  • O - 8.38
  • MSFT - 24.13
  • EMR - 14.57
  • LO - 20.32
  • XOM - 23.56
  • JNJ - 14.90
  • V - 12.59
  • AFL - 12.55
  • CHD - 9.65
  • INTC - 13.04
  • Money Market - .02
401K:
  • Bonds - 1.34 & 1.86 & 2.63
  • Intl Growth - 38.70 & 51.66
  • FTSE ex-US - 12.52 & 16.75
  • Ext Market - 42.78 & 53.78
  • Inst Index - 14.90 & 18.89

Total:  1010.15

Jump over to my dividend income page to see the increases month after month.  There is also a nice chart on that page for all you visual learners out there.  On that page, you can easily see dividend income investing at work which hopefully one day will be greater than our expenses and that's what we like to call The American Dividend Dream!  Check out our complete portfolio here updated on 1/3/2015.

Looking out in 2015, I'm thinking of adding some more VZ, COP/CVX, GLP, KMI, MSFT, an investment company (perhaps WDR as I think its undervalued), another healthcare (perhaps DGX or GILD or more OHI) and WAGE which I talked about previously.

How was your December?  What are you looking to add in the New Year?

Thanks,
Scott
